DC: The Oregon and California National Historic Trails are among 37 national park sites selected to receive a 2015 Active Trails grant from the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America's national parks.• The Alcove Spring Historical Trust and NTIR were awarded an Active Trails Grant by the National Park Foundation, to support volunteer trail building and public events onsite in 2014. Volunteers have already recleared an existing trail, and additional work days, guided hikes, and a run/walk event are being scheduled for the summer and fall.Alcove Spring was an important landmark for travelers on the Oregon and California trails, as emigrants were often stranded near the spring for days, waiting for flood waters on the Big Blue River to recede. Today, the spring is part of a 240 acre park owned and managed by the Alcove Spring Historical Trust.
